Here
are some helpful moving tips to ensure that your move is a successful
one.
One
Month Before Moving
- Make sure
to provide the Post Office with a change of address form.
- Notify credit
card companies, government, church, accountant, lawyer, etc.
- Call a moving
company or reserve a rental truck for the big move.
- Plan travel
arrangements - hotel, airline, bus, rental car
- Make sure
to transfer club memberships, bank records, insurance documents,
legal contracts, medical/Optometrist records, school records,
Veterinarian records, dental records.
- Make an appointment
with the bank in your new destination to open a bank account
- Do an inventory
check of all your belongings before you are completely packed
- Arrange for
transporting of your pets
One To Two
Weeks Before Moving
- Discontinue
the electricity, cable, garbage collection, telephone, newspaper
delivery, nursery service.
- Arrange to
have friends help on moving day.
- Confirm travel
reservations.
- Make sure
to get your appliances serviced before you move.
- Plan ahead
for special needs of infants.
- Make sure
to close your bank accounts and have all the funds wired to your
new bank.
- Defrost
freezer and refrigerator.
- Supply your
close friends and relatives with your travel schedule should they
need to reach you.
On Moving
Day
- Make sure
and double check that nothing is left behind. Check the closets,
drawers, shelves etc.
- Have traveler's
cheques on hand for quick and available funds.
